4 months, several theatrical productions, and a whole lot of work and boredom later...
I RETURN! (Dun, dun DUUUUUN!)
I guess I'm here today to talk one way or another about happy things. Indeed, happy things. Like pineapples. You ever realize how pineapples are always, always yellow on the inside? It's very comforting to know there are some fruits in the world that know how to make up their minds. Unlike pears. Now there's a screwed up type of fruit. You've got pears that are yellow, pears that are green, pears that are brown, heck I've even had pears that are purple. JUST PICK A COLOR AND STICK WITH IT! And not only that, but pears are cunning little devils. When you buy them, they're hard as a rock and you couldn't cut them with a flaming machete. On fire. But then you go out for five minutes, or go to make toast, and POOF! they all have the consistency of pudding! It's almost like they plot to do this to us. Why can't we get along with pears?
But I'm not here to grouse (or turkey, or quail) about mischevious fruits. I'm here to speak about the aforementioned happy things. And the first happy thing is really about what keeps us happy. Everybody should have something to do that is a fun and easy way to get rid of stress. Like what? Well, this is my blog, so I'll speak briefly about what I do to relax.
1) I draw. Drawing is a great way to just retreat inside yourself for an hour or so and be at peace with the world. Yeah, that sounds very hippie. But it's true, and doodling is a great therapeutic way to survive an hour of boring lecture. In fact, I'm pretty darn sure doodling is a prescription drug. Must be.
2) I play guitar and piano. Either one is good in and of itself, but I didn't really start enjoy playing until I got my electric guitar for Christmas (and she's a beaut, let me tell you). When you have something that you can mess around on for a while, maybe playing something you heard on the radio, maybe plucking out a few notes and just seeing what sounds good, you really can avoid a lot of stress, and I think it's because there aren't any deadlines or anything. I am a serious procrastinator, to the point where it isn't very healthy, and the ability to take something at my own pace is great.
3) I act. It's not for everyone, because tons of people are afraid of making an ass of themselves, but you know what Internet? That's the point. It's entirely likely you WILL make an ass of yourself, and what your job is is to pick yourself out of the gutter, laugh it off, and keep on moving. And that in and of itself is one of the most important aspects of acting, and pertinent in real life as well.
So that's just a couple of things I do. There are more besides, and the reason why I do so much is that while I'm not ADD, I do have a very short attention span and my interests REALLY shift around a lot, so I do lots of stuff so that there's always something I'm doing that I'll enjoy.
This post was kind of serious, and my next one will be with all probability be so as well, but I promise my normal (can you call a half a dozen posts "normal"?) randomness will return shortly.
Until next time, Internet!
